Jazz is the most important improvised music of all time and, just how cats used to do back in time, the tunes will be chosen when the musicians meet up for the gig. This does not mean to say though that it will be a jam session, no. The choice of songs will depend on the mood of the musicians because that IS real jazz: playing, singing and improvising what you feel at that very moment. Studying jazz of course is an entirely different aspect altogether and harvesting the fruit from long laborious hours of study can only happen when all of the musicians get together on the stage and the flame alights.
